NEW TRENDS IN ‘EDIBLE LANDSCAPING’: WE CAN HELP!

with Herbs:
Put herbs in your garden, or in a container placed on your deck or on a windowsill, ready to clip for dinner. Integrate herbs with your flowers or vegetables – they make wonderful companion plants, adding great fragrance and beauty, and often acting to deter pests. As many herbs originate from the area of the Mediterranean they often require less water, and far less care than other plants (there are a few exceptions).

Hang a herbal hanging basket with a collection of your favourite herbs, near your kitchen or by the barbecue. Take the hanger off & bring it inside for winter. We’ll help you with how to care for it – inside and outside.

We have more varieties of herb plants available to purchase than you’ve ever seen in one location! Our herbs not only include many of your favourites, but also include a great selection of herbs often difficult to find in northern Alberta.

We sell herb bedding plants, fresh-cut herbs, and herb mixes. NEW for 2006 - we will also be selling herb seeds!

We have herbs in beautiful hand-made pots, and wonderful herb collections in hanging baskets and in patio/windowsill planters. Select one for yourself or give someone a beautiful living gift. Take one of our creations, or you can you can choose your favourite plants and a container, and we’ll put one together for you – while you wait, or made-to-order – and you pay only for the materials!

Our herbs include many varieties of popular herbs such as Basil, Chives, Cilantro/Coriander, Dill, Fennel, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Mint, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage, Savory, Stevia, Tarragon, Thyme, plus a great variety of other herb plants.

Please view our HERB section for full details on plant available, growing and harvesting tips, and culinary uses.

with Flowers:
Edible flowers not only look and often smell wonderful, they integrate with herbs
beautifully, and most make wonderful cutting blooms as well.

Edible flowers add unique flavour and zest to cooking or baking, to salads, or as a beautiful garnish.

It’s easy to integrate edible flowers into your garden, or after visiting this site or talking to us, you may discover that you already have some edible plants in your yard! Please be cautious however – many plants are not edible (may even be toxic), or if bought from a traditional greenhouse, may have been sprayed with chemicals. We specialize in edible flowers, and because everything is grown organically you know it is safe.

Many of the flowers we grow are heritage blooms - you may remember them from your mother’s or grandmother’s or a friend’s garden. We sell our flowers as plants, in collections in patio pots or hanging baskets, as individual blooms, or gathered together in signature flower arrangements. Again we can help you create your own unique collection in a pot or basket.

Our flowers include: Bee-balm, Borage, Calendula, Carnations, Clove Pinks, Hollyhocks, Mallow, Marigolds, Nasturtiums, Pansies, Roses, Snapdragons, Violas, and so many more!

Please view our EDIBLE FLOWER section for full details on plants available along with growing and harvesting tips. There we also provide a description of edible flower flavours and suggested culinary uses, and information on buying our edible blooms and how they are packaged. You will also find a ‘Top Ten Edible Flower Rules’ list, and information on inedible and toxic flowers.

with Salads and Gourmet Greens:
Mix your salad veggies in your herb and flower beds – plants such as Arugula, Garland Round (Shungiku), and Mustards have lovely edible flowers as well as providing tasty greens. Many cabbages and lettuces are now very colourful and have interesting textures as well as being flavourful.

We specialize in pre-mixed gourmet salads, combining dozens of such ingredients - herbs, great greens, specialty lettuce, edible flowers. Did you know? – The head gardener of King James II thought that there should be at least 35 different ingredients in a salad! Our salads have that and more – making them interesting in taste and texture, colourful, and incredibly good for you (don’t tell the kids!).

Currently we sell an “Inspired Herb Salad” and a “Spicy Herb Salad”, both available in two sizes. People tell us all the time “that was the best tasting salad I ever had”.

Individual gourmet greens are also available, by bag or by weight. In addition to a dozen different varieties of lettuce we have such tasty greens as: Arugula, Mache, Mizuna, Mustard greens, Purslane, Spinach, Salad Burnet, and again, so much more…

Please view our INCREDIBLE SALADS & GREENS section for full details on salads, and on types and varieties of greens available, plus growing and harvesting tips.
